Green cloth, gilt titles to spine and author’s signature in gilt to front. pp xiv + 269pp. Including 57 black and white photographic illustration, 10 drawings by E N Prescott and a double page sketch map of Iraq and surrounding area, on green card. Binding a little bumped at edges and cloth a little scratched. Laid on front free endpaper is a printed paper from John Murray with the publishers compliments and contemporary typed “Sent at Miss Stark’s instructions.” Above this in pencil is the signature of H de Gaury/Easter 1942. On the facing front pastedown is the armorial book plate of Gerald de Gaury. Gerald de Gaury was a friend of Freya Stark and an experienced traveller, photographer, Arabist and diplomat.
